Avi Fox-Rosen
Avi Fox-Rosen is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter and Brooklyn local. Avi writes a lot of songs... and with them has released three albums of original material. His most recent solo album "Welcome to the Show" was nominated as an Independent Music Awards Eclectic Album of the Year in 2009. His sets at The Way Station are intimate and rockin, with lots of experimenting with new sounds. He's joined by an assortment of friends and musical freaks of nature on stage, and always a new song or 3 to debut. Avi has performed all over the world with a host of wonderful musicians and performers including Adrienne Cooper, Frank London, Basya Schechter of Pharaoh's Daughter, Benjy Fox-Rosen, Yiddish Princess, Jenny Romaine and many more. Ramblin Rose is a combination of Hot Jazz, Sultry singing, and just enough burlesque to make you want to come back for more again and again. Since May 2011 Burlesque powerhouse Rosie 151 and Brooklyn's premiere dixieland band, The Red Hook Ramblers, have made The Way Station their home. Ramblin Rose can be seen the first Thursday of every month and viewers of the show can expect to be taken back to a time when the term 'heavy metal' meant a swingin brass section, where women rolled there stockings down, and the libations were loose!!

Mic the Robot is an all-out funky dance party with drums, bass, guitar, and Fender Rhodes, and everybody singing. They move you with New Orleans grooves, jazzy house, even reggaeton. Imagine Rebirth Brass Band put down their horns and started playing Manu Chao.

THE INTERGALACTIC SPORTSBOWL OF FUTURISTIC AWESOMENESS
We at Way Station find many of your Earth customs quaint, charming and even, in some cases, downright intriguing: labradoodles, for example, or this thing you call love. Picklebacks? We can't get enough of those.

But we just don't get the whole Superbowl thing.

On Sunday February 5th, instead of a certain football competition, Nasty Canasta and Doc Wasabassco present free screenings of several of their favorite classic sci-fi sports films - proving that even geeks may claim a place on the Field of Sport:

Kickoff is at 5pm with the dystopian classic, Rollerball: "In the not too distant future, wars will no longer exist. But there will be Rollerball." Also James Caan.

At 7pm David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone take the field with Death Race 2000, "a cross country road wreck" set in a fascist police state where the greatest national sporting event claims innocent lives.

Postgame entertainment will be provided by Max Headroom, as the futuristic investigative reporter tackles "raking," a dangerous new underground sport that combines skateboarding … with death!

*** Football aside, we do adore the finer sporting-event-related customs of this planet: drinking, nachos and cheerleading are all highly endorsed. (Additionally, as February 5th is Nasty's actual birthday, any spontaneous bat'leth competitions, Pyramid matches or Dalek Bowl games that happen will be particularly encouraged.)
